very cool. i saw this inspiring photo a while ago and then looked up the article about it… it was featured in Time Magazine. at first, it upset me because it made me think of what could happen to matt, but then i realised that his calling is stronger than the sacrifice.
i also realised i wouldn’t be keeping up my part of our marriage if i couldn’t support him in every way. so i got a grip and chose to put my feelings aside. its more important to focus on what the sacrifice means rather than what the sacrifice is.
Pfc. Kyle Hockenberry, of 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Infantry Regiment, 1st Heavy Combat Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, was injured in an improvised explosive device attack near Haji Ramuddin. He was treated by flight medics while being transported by medevac helicopter to hospital at Kandahar Air Field in Afghanistan on June 15, 2011.
PFC Kyle Hockenberry’s tattoo etched on his chest wall says it all about this wounded warrior… “For those I love, I will sacrifice.” They are powerful words carried close to the heart of Kyle who sacrificed so much for his family, for his friends, for his local community, his state, and all of us fortunate enough to claim the United States as our home. We are fortunate to have young men like Kyle risking life and limb for our freedom.
His family put up a facebook page for him and posted his mailing address in case anyone wanted to send christmas cards, etc.
