another cutie focal image by the greeting farm from their cheeky cherry series called cheeky geeky. the colouring isn’t my best work, but this was more of an exercise in layout, composition, and making a CAS (clean and simple) card that meets the guidelines for one of my favorite charities, operation write home. one of the bigges challenges I have is learning how to select paper, assemble layout layouts, and embellish together in a way that complements and coordinates well.
I love paper. I love paper (and fabric) so much that I am a borderline hoarder.
Truth be told, if my home office/dressing/craft room were larger (and better organised), I’d have a lot more of it all over. But I’ll leave my home improvement/renovation/craftroom dreams for another day.
Pros:
- I like the blues, lime, black, and white palette
- I like the coordination of prints and complementing layers
- the sentiment works with the focal image
Cons:
- The colouring was a bit lacking. One would think this is easy . . . you know, kids’s stuff, right? But no, the black/grey stripes didn’t work the way I thought nor was it easy to prevent ink bleeding. (I think this will improve and become more consistent with practise and patience)
- This set doesn’t seem to be of the true CAS form. There are a lot of elements in the card that take you in many directions. Perhaps holding back on over-embellishing was CAS-esque, but I haven’t developed a good comfort level with whitespace yet.
- I need to improve my technical skills in terms of layering. I’m still doing forward layering instead of reverse/negative layering . . . which is a style I really like but haven’t quite mastered yet.
